Complaint & Demand for Action

UMRA

We lodged a formal complaint to UMRA expressing deep concern about the continued operation of unauthorized digital lending entities in Uganda via online platforms.

Despite the commendable regulatory measures undertaken by the Uganda Microfinance Regulatory Authority (UMRA)—including the publication of a list of unlicensed digital lending entities in 2024—several websites and Google Play Store accounts operated by these entities remain active.

As part of our complaint, we attached a detailed list of active URLs and links to mobile applications and websites for the unlicensed entities identified in UMRA’s 2024 publication.

To address these violations, we formally requested UMRA to:

  1. Engage Google to deindex or block the alleged URLs and applications.
  2. Seek a Court Order requiring Google and other service providers to deindex or block these URLs and restrict access to the platforms.
