Our Legal Actions
We take decisive legal action against corporations, platforms, and institutions that engage in anticompetitive conduct, consumer fraud and unlawful data & business practices.
We filed a complaint before the COMESA Competition & Consumer Protection Commission against Meta Platforms Inc., challenging amendments to the WhatsApp Business Solution Terms that exclude third-party AI chatbot providers from accessing WhatsApp across the COMESA region.
We filed a complaint with Uganda’s Data Protection Office against WhatsApp LLC, citing violations of the Data Protection and Privacy Act, 2019. The complaint challenges WhatsApp’s 2021 Privacy Policy, which mandates data sharing with Meta companies without users’ consent.
We filed a competition complaint against Google Uganda and Google LLC for monopolistic control and anti-competitive practices in Uganda’s Android market, citing restrictive agreements with local manufacturers, MiOne Phones Uganda and SIMI Mobile Uganda.
We raised a complaint against NBS Television for allegedly breaching the Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) Advertising Standards, 2019 by featuring Split Screen adverts during current affairs programs such as Morning Breeze, NBS Frontline, and NBS Eagle.
We filed a complaint with the Registrar of Companies against AFRICAN QUEEN NO. 1 DISTRIBUTORS – SMC LIMITED, challenging the inclusion of the phrase “NO. 1” in its registered name. We contend that this phrase constitutes a misleading marketing claim, creates unfair competition, and misleads consumers by implying unverified market dominance.
We formally lodged a complaint with the Uganda Microfinance Regulatory Authority (UMRA) regarding the continued operation of unauthorized digital lending entities in Uganda via websites and Google Play Store accounts. We urged UMRA to engage Google to block these platforms.
