Violation of Advertising Standards

Airtel Uganda

Our team member, Mr. Aziz Kitaka, lodged a complaint against Airtel Uganda regarding their use of social media influencers who fail to disclose sponsored content, which we contend constitutes a breach of the Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) Advertising Standards.

In response, Airtel Uganda denied any violation of the UCC Advertising Standards. The matter was escalated to the UCC, which acknowledged that its current advertising guidelines do not adequately address the evolving practice of influencer advertising. This recognition highlights a need for law reform to ensure advertising standards keep pace with emerging trends in digital marketing.
